First, apparently he took LOTS of photographs, most of which were quite everyday ordinary. This is inspiring because now I know that every photograph doesn't have to be great, you just need to be able to have a good eye when shooting and when identifying the good shots.
That leads to the second item, his quote "The perfect is the enemy of the good". How liberating is that!
Finally, Ansel's best work obviously started out with a good image from a clear artistic conception, but he also spent a lot of time in the darkroom manipulating the exposures during development. For all those purists who believe post-production is a bad thing, that ain't necessarily so! I feel better about using Nikon's software, Capture NX, to do post production. It is essentially a darkroom on a computer.
